This May marks eight years since Westway IT was founded, and it’s a milestone we’re incredibly proud of.
What started as a small, people‑focused IT business has grown into a trusted partner for organisations across Gloucestershire and beyond. None of this would be possible without our clients, partners, and the wider business community who’ve supported us along the way, and we would like to take this opportunity to say thank you.
Eight Years of Making IT Less Stressful
From day one, our goal has been simple: keep our clients’ IT running smoothly in the background, so they can focus on running their businesses and doing what they do best, being awesome for their clients.
Keeping IT Running, 24/7
Keeping IT running smoothly often means solving problems before anyone even notices them. That’s why we provide 24/7 monitoring and support to ensure our clients systems are watched and protected.
We work closely with our trusted partner Uptime to ensure our clients have access to support around the clock, whether a problem occurs on a weekend, bank holiday or even Christmas day we have help on hand to solve it efficiently.
Keeping Businesses Secure Behind the Scenes
Our 24/7 Security Operations Centre (SOC) continuously monitors systems helping identify and contain cyber threats quickly before they cause disruption. Supported by experienced security specialists, this approach protects businesses against ransomware attacks.
To strengthen this protection further, tools like ThreatLocker help guard against new and unknown threats, while we secure appliances through Microsoft 365 environments by applying best‑practice standards, flagging any drift from them, and monitoring for suspicious activity such as hidden inbox rules designed to conceal emails. Together, these layers work quietly in the background to keep businesses secure and resilient.
We stay ahead of cyber risks by strengthening protections early and working with insights which help us quietly adjust defences, tighten security, and make informed decisions in the background. Our clients don’t see it day to day, but they benefit from it through stronger protection and greater peace of mind, without added complexity or disruption.
Recognised for Our Work
Over the years, our work has been recognised by both industry bodies and regional business awards, reinforcing our commitment to delivering reliable, people‑first IT and cyber support.
In 2025, John was proud to be named GTIA Spotlight Awards Future Leader Winner, recognising his contribution to the IT community and commitment to raising standards across the industry. The same year, Westway IT also won Solo MSP of the Year at the SuperOps MSP Awards, following a special mention in 2024, a journey that reflects consistent growth and dedication over time.
We were also honoured to be listed among Britain’s 50 Best Managed IT Companies 2025, highlighting strong leadership, operational maturity, and a clear focus on long‑term client relationships.
More recently, we have become a finalist for C2S Awards 2026 Micro Business of the Year and were shortlisted for Cyber and IT Business of the Year 2026, recognising both the quality of our cyber and IT services and the impact a small, focused business can have when it prioritises excellence and trust.
Previously, we were also shortlisted for the Forest Economic Partnership Innovation Awards 2025, reflecting our continued commitment to innovation, community involvement, and supporting local businesses with modern, resilient IT.
While awards are never the goal, they are a reassuring sign that the way we work, honest advice, personal service, and long‑term relationships, really matters.
Built on Relationships and Community
Westway IT has always been about people, not just technology.
We’re proud to be actively involved in local and national networking events, peer groups, and business communities including GTIA (Global Technology Industry Association), The Tech Tribe, UNO, Forest Economic Partnership, Cheltenham Chamber of commerce and Cheltenham Business Luncheon; previously we have also been a member of BNI. Where we share knowledge, learn from others, contribute and help strengthen the wider small business ecosystem. These relationships keep us grounded, accountable, and constantly improving, helping us bring better insight and support back to the businesses we work with every day. It keeps us with best practices and from our position we can also help shape them.
John is currently in his second year on the GTIA UK & Ireland Executive Council. GTIA is a global community for tech businesses that connects members through networking and events, provides resources and best practices. This is an amazing achievement and responsibility, growing connections further and having a stronger voice within the reginal tech space. This puts us at the front of our industry.
Growing the Team, Strengthening the Personal Touch
This next chapter marks an important milestone for Westway IT.
This year we have gained our first additional internal team member, Rosie, who isn’t about adding more technical layers to the business but about keeping that human touch; the simple, easy, approachable conversations without all the acronyms that come with ‘tech talk’.
Along with growing our internal team, we have also grown our partnerships and community over the years with other like-minded businesses. Through trusted peer groups and our phenomenal accountability group, we share ideas, challenges, and wins with others who understand the journey. These conversations are honest, supportive, and genuinely helpful, playing a big part in how we learn, adapt, and continually improve the way we support our clients. With our accountability group acting like a business board with fellow business owners Gareth and Michelle, we are able to bounce ideas, keep each other grounded and have great open conversations, the best way to learn and grow is from other around us and that is one of the key things within our group.
Looking Ahead
Eight years in, our focus remains exactly where it should be: on our clients, our community, and doing the right thing.
